About Reynolds Opticians
Founded by Juanita and Tre Reynolds in 1980 and subsequently run by Alison and David Williams, Reynolds Opticians has become one of the South West’s leading community opticians. With a deserved reputation for excellent customer care and clinical innovation we continue to provide quality eye care and eyewear in a friendly and comfortable practice. Now owned by optometrists Marcus and Sophie Slater, the practice continues to develop and provides NHS and private services within practice and in the wider community.
Marcus Slater BSc (Hons) MCOptom FBDO
Marcus is a qualified Optometrist and Dispensing Optician, graduating from Cardiff university with a first class honours degree and the Head of school prize. Marcus is a member of the College of Optometrists and Association of Optometrists.
In 2018 Marcus became a director of Reynolds Opticians in Penzance where he practices full time. He has been an active Local Optical committee member since 2013 and has experience working in multiple, independent and hospital optometric practice. Working as a director for Primary Eyecare Cornwall Ltd he has assisted in the successful commissioning of enhanced optometric community services- such as post operative cataract assessment, glaucoma referral refinement and ocular hypertension monitoring in Cornwall.
Marcus is WOPEC accredited to perform Minor Eye Condition Services (MECS), Glaucoma referral refinement, Ocular Hypertension monitoring and Post-Operative Cataract assessments. He is currently enrolled on a post graduate certificate in glaucoma which will allow him to specialise in glaucoma management. Marcus has special interests in glaucoma, dry eye and myopia (short-sight) control.
Marcus was born in Cornwall and raised in Helston. In his spare time he can be found looking after his chickens and pigs at home on the smallholding.
Sophie Slater BSc (Hons) MCOptom FBDO
Sophie started working in Optics in 2005 in Hampshire. She worked as a Locum Dispensing Optician and particularly enjoyed working in Southampton Eye Hospital dispensing paediatrics and low vision. She then studied Optometry at Cardiff University, graduating with 1st class honours. Her special interests are paediatrics and low vision. Marcus and Sophie have a son called Rory, born in May 2017. In their spare time the family can be found on their small holding, caring for their animals.
James Kerr BSc MCOptom
James started working in Optics in 1989 as a Dispensing Optician then studied to become an Optometrist at Bradford University, qualifying in 1996. He moved to Cornwall from Suffolk in 2006 and is married with one son. When not testing eyes, he works as a Blacksmith; he runs his own forge and is a member of The Blacksmith Guild and the Cornish Blacksmith Collective so is well placed to advise on safety specs and the qualities of hot iron.
Kim joined Reynolds Opticians in 1986 and is now responsible for most of the spectacle dispensing. She has a flair for choosing the best frame and lenses and her knowledge and skills are invaluable when it comes to picking new glasses. Kim leads the dispensing team and has a phenomenal memory for patient details. She is married with two sons and in her spare time is usually planning her next trip to Orlando.
Alison joined Reynolds Opticians as an Optometric Assistant in 2011 after a long career in local banking. With huge experience in customer service and practical organisation, she ensures that the practice runs smoothly. Personal interests include walking, reading and jewellery-making and claiming to be taller than she really is.
Tansy joined the practice in 2012 as a receptionist and has recently come back to work part-time following the birth of her second child. Her friendly smile and happy nature are huge assets to the business, as is her willingness to provide cups of tea at a moment’s notice.
